At 8:00 AM, you will be greeted and begin your journey to Punakaiki via Arthur’s pass. You will be treated to stunning views of deserts and natural landscapes at every turn. We will make a special stop at the Otira Viaduct Lookout, where you’ll have the chance to admire the stunning mountain scenery. Next, we’ll visit a boutique studio in Greymouth, where you’ll learn about the prized West Coast jade, known locally as Pounamu or Greenstone, and its deep cultural significance.
Continue your journey to Punakaiki to visit the famous Pancake Rocks. Witness the magic of nature as it shapes an array of fascinating rock formations. Then, head to Hokitika, marking the start of a scenic West Coast road trip. This charming town is famous for its artistic flair and coastal beauty. Explore the local attractions and perhaps shop for some unique souvenirs.
In the evening, enjoy a visit to see the glowworms after dinner. You’ll be amazed by how these tiny creatures light up the cave. Return to town afterward for an overnight stay.
Start your day by enjoying the crisp, fresh air of Hokitika, a peaceful town nestled along the West Coast. Take a moment to soak in the tranquil atmosphere before heading out to the enchanting Hokitika Gorge. Known for its strikingly blue, pristine waters and lush natural surroundings, the gorge offers a scenic walk that’s perfect for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. As you stroll along, you’ll be captivated by the beauty that defines this hidden gem.
After returning to town for lunch, it will be time to bid farewell to Hokitika and begin our journey back to Christchurch. On the way, we’ll make a memorable stop at Castle Hill Rocks, a breathtaking mountain landscape known for its unique limestone formations. These massive rock formations, often referred to as the “Stonehenge of New Zealand,” provide a striking backdrop for some final photos as you reflect on the adventure.
To make the drive even more enjoyable, we’ll take a relaxing tea break where you can unwind with biscuits and a cup of hot tea, savoring the stunning scenery one last time. As we continue toward Christchurch, you’ll have time to take in the awe-inspiring views that line the route. We aim to drop you off at your accommodation around 4 PM, concluding what we hope has been an unforgettable journey.
